Abridge Secures $300M Series E Led by a16z to Pioneer a New Paradigm of Care Intelligence

We’re thrilled to share some news: Abridge is now partnering with more than 150 enterprise health systems across the U.S. We’re also sharing the successful close of our Series E funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz, and joined by Khosla Ventures. This new capital will accelerate our efforts to transform the way care is delivered, documented, and reimbursed, starting at the point of care.

Every year, the U.S. healthcare system spends nearly $1.5 trillion on administrative costs. A significant portion of that cost is tied to clinical documentation and corresponding revenue cycle workflows—tasks that are increasingly pushed onto clinicians. Revenue cycle entails highly complex processes that involve:

  • Accurately capturing granular details from clinical conversations
  • Translating those details into thousands of evolving billing codes
  • Navigating payer-specific documentation requirements

This complexity creates friction that fuels clinician burnout, delays reimbursement, and adds unnecessary administrative overhead. Most critically, revenue cycle and other downstream processes only become relevant to clinicians after the conversation is over. That’s when clinicians hear from coders and auditors about non-compliant documentation. By then, the details are hard to recall, and the adjustments are time-consuming. Physicians already need 30 hours in a day to keep up—the last thing we should ask of them is to become experts in revenue cycle or utilization management. That’s why our models have gone to coding school, risk adjustment school, and utilization management school. They know what needs to be documented for various specialties, and any patient, so the right information gets captured while care is happening—not after the fact. With this new funding, we’re scaling our platform to:

  • Embed revenue cycle intelligence earlier in the clinical conversation
  • Eliminate the need for manual, delayed coordination between clinicians and billing teams

“Every medical conversation is rich with the signals our healthcare system depends on. Abridge activates those signals in the background, silently handling the complexity so clinicians can focus on the human moments that matter. We reduce the burden, restore time, and help make care about the people at the heart of it all.”

—Dr. Shiv Rao, CEO and co-founder of Abridge

Evidence is the ultimate validation: Real impact at enterprise scale

Our journey began with solving one of the most painful challenges in healthcare: clinical documentation. Over the last two years, we’ve had the privilege of deploying and scaling our enterprise-grade healthcare AI platform at 150 of the largest and most complex health systems across the country. Our partners have shared countless stories of clinical, operational, and financial impact, demonstrating the original thesis in action. As evidenced by the points below, Abridge is a proven, essential part of daily operations for many of the nation's leading health systems:

  • Trusted by over 150 leading enterprise health systems, from major academic institutions to FQHCs, serving conversations across 55 specialties and 28 languages.
  • This year alone, Abridge will support clinicians across more than 50 million medical conversations, turning them into actionable next steps.
  • A‍bridge reduces burnout by up to 60-70%.
  • Over 90% of clinicians who start using Abridge continue using the platform in a meaningful way.

The investor thesis: Shifting upstream

We’re driven by a deep commitment to helping clinicians work at the top of their license with minimal cognitive load and full focus on the patient—by diving deeper into specialties and delivering a seamless, magical user experience. But we're also now entering a new phase: automating more of what happens behind the scenes and enabling revenue cycle management (RCM) teams to operate with unparalleled efficiency.

Revenue cycle teams aren’t in the exam room—they only review what’s been documented. Leveraging the Contextual Reasoning Engine, our platform supports the latest guidelines and risk adjustment models (e.g., CMS-HCC Version 28) and transforms patient conversations into compliant documentation at the point of care. By capturing every appropriate Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) with supporting evidence (e.g., MEAT criteria)—alongside ICD-10 codes and visit diagnoses—we’re extending the value of clinical conversations. By supporting auditability of codes and corresponding evidence, RCM teams are positioned to confidently submit accurate and compliant claims without the need to query clinicians post-visit. Our ultimate aim is to reduce unnecessary back-and-forth, and help achieve faster reimbursement cycles and minimize the risk of denials.

Our investors recognize that this fundamental shift is required, one that supercharges a smarter healthcare journey for patients and health systems.

“While the healthcare system has evolved over the last 30 years, the one constant has been rising costs and the growing burden on clinicians and patients alike. Abridge eliminates inefficiencies at their source, directly in the clinical conversation, with a platform that has demonstrated tremendous traction and impact in the market. This is a company with truly rare ingredients: world-class clinical and technical leadership, deep scientific credibility, and AI technology that is years ahead of the field. Abridge has both the vision and velocity to create lasting, systemic change, and we are thrilled to be part of their journey.”

Care Intelligence for the entire health system

Tomorrow’s healthcare system won't be about keyboards and clicks, but about conversations and care. We are building the AI platform to power this future. Abridge will not only reduce legacy administrative tasks, but also unlock entirely new possibilities for proactive and coordinated care—for all care teams.

There is much more to come. We’re building fast, hiring across engineering and clinical teams, and always looking for health system partners who share our vision. If this resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you.
